"...hairs were white like wool, as white as snow..."

  • In Daniel 7:9, God the Father, "The Ancient of Days," is described clothed in a garment "white as snow," and "the hair of His head like the pure wool." Since Jesus is "the express image" (Hebrews 1:3) of the Father; He too would have snowy white hair, representing His age, beauty, glory, wisdom, all pointing toward Him as the Judge of the Universe.... Proverbs 16:31 says, "The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the ways of righteousness," and Proverbs 20:29 adds that, "...the beauty of old men is in the gray head." Unfortunately, in today's world, white hair represents feeble health and declining strength. But not so with God. It is an emblem of wisdom, glory, and antiquity, and it will be a crown of glory to those who follow Christ. (KC 26)
  • John grasps in vain for words with which to give an accurate description of what he sees in vision. At first sight of the whiteness of the hair of the One appearing to him in vision the whiteness of wool comes to his mind. But no sooner has he written this than he thinks of an even whiter substance, snow, and he adds it for a yet more accurate description. Perhaps also, the description of Daniel 7:9 comes to his mind. (7BC 738-739)

"...His eyes were as a flame of fire;"

  • In the eyes of Christ, there is love, mercy, tenderness, and compassion. At the same time, His penetrating gaze can discern the thoughts and motives of our heart. The Bible says, "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do" Hebrews 4:13. Jesus is "a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" Hebrews 4:12. He knows what is best for our growth. (KC 26)
  • That is, a "fiery flame," emphasizing the brightness of His countenance and the intensity of His gaze. (7BC 739)
