Daniel 1:21 Index
"And Daniel continued unto the first year of king Cyrus."

" . . . even unto the first year of king Cyrus." (Ezra 1:1; Ezra 1:2; Isaiah 44:28; Daniel 6:28; Daniel 10:1)

  • The text does not necessarily imply that Daniel's life did not extend beyond the 1st year of Cyrus. (4BC 764)
  • The last words of the first chapter of Daniel are truly significant.... In other words, Daniel lived all the days of the Babylonian captivity, - over seventy years, - and had the pleasure of meeting that Cyrus whose name the prophet Isaiah had mentioned nearly two hundred years before he issued his wonderful decree for the deliverance of God's people. (SNH 30)
  • Darius died two years after the fall of Babylon (Daniel 5:31). Cyrus became king. (GB 16)
  • Prophecy convinced Cyrus. Prophecy led to the restoration from Babylon. (Isaiah 44:28). (GB 16)
